St Gildas
[[preprinted]]September WEDNESDAY, 3 1902.[[/preprinted]]

This morning at about four I changed cars at Rennes for Vannes. Had a whole compartment to myself. One seat for my baggage as there were [[no? racks??]] Got to Vannes about 7.30. Told me automobile went at ten another at 9.30 and I would have lots of time to see the town. However I got back to station at 8.45 and the Auto had left. Took a horse & carraige and caught it at other side of town just as it was leaving
Vannes is a charming little town but still I like to arrange to stay over night and not have it forced on me. Got to Sarzeau about 10.30 and changed to a carraige & reached St Gildas at about 11.05
Its fine, air is great nice old convent with cloisters chapel gardens, a little patch of trees, old stables and the ocean in sight on two sides. Cliffs, beach and rocky points.
Good grub.
Walked pretty much all over the place with Hall. He's looking great

Got up after a good night's sleep and got to breakfast on time.
This is a beautiful place indeed and lots to paint.
Made several lead pencil [[stunts ?]] and will have to get to work soon.
Bath yesterday and today. Then peach French girl went in to she is pretty swell and I didnt need Aldens description to mark her down. The water is very fine and not cold at all for this time of year
Can feel myself getting finer every minute here.
Fine sunset tonight
Early in as they close the gates of the convent at 9 P.M.
Long sleep now.
