July 10

Boy model at studio. Perfectly awful sketch, scraped. Sketched by canal in the afternoon, this time with a far more encouraging result "Groote Kerk." much amusement among the youngsters. Mr. Jules Kievits took us around to a concert at his "Vereenigung". Damen Orchester from Wein. Nice Summer evening.

July 11

I am rising at disgraceful hours - for me. Sketched by the canal again with W. This time better. Everything seems so fine in this rare sunlight that it seems like painting the lily. Red roofs so fine. The handsome boats. It is really the river Spaarn where we have been working.  Went with W. to the Museum. Called at the Leder. Scheepshischent. Walked w. Misses Pope & Niles Mrs. Grosch & Wadsworth around old part of town saw last of the old city gates. Wonder-

-ful, tonal reflections. Red and gray, still canals. Went back of the prison & Adriaan-Molen. Afterward walked with Mrs. Irons & was taken for a walk by Mrs. Betts.

July 12

Mr. Molster, Mrs. Scott's Hollandish journalist friend came to take us to the Groote Kerk. Fine interior very heavy columns. Tombs under feet. Splendid organ. ^[[insertion]] Bach [[insertion]] Feroent preaching. Dutch people in church, hats on. Giggling Americans. Impressive, all through. In the afternoon, the Wadsworths took Miss Rheinlander and myself for a carriage ride to Bloemendaal, Bennebroekenz. I was the interpreter. Flat bright-green country, Ruisdael sky, flowers, villas, Sunday crowds, all road paved with brick, Groote Kerk visible for miles. Very pleasant time. Saw Hals statue.
