35 Bachelors lying on top of the cairn bluff this morning.
At the Lukannon sands there are 400 bachelors.  This number just about fills up the sand from the edge of the [[strikethrough]] rookery [[/strikethrough]] hillside hauling-ground to the rocky pt. toward Lukannon bay.  On the hillside are about 500 or 600 more, but they can not be counted.
When I came up they were practically [[underlined]] all [[/underlined]] lying down asleep & there was scarcely

a sound to be heard.
There are [[underlined]] none [[underlined]] in the water opposite.

Went over to Lukannon Bay to get a bull-seal.  There were about 500 bachelors on the beach & at least an equal number (probably, more) on the hillside.
Got a bull, as follows,
