birthday. Jan 9th they were married 32 years.
I notice that I have forgotten to mention the family of mongoose which lives near our cottage. The other evening I saw mother and two sleek little babies (mongoslings(?)) scuttle across the road. The mother ran out in the road & looked to see if all was clear. Then she gave a kind of whistle, and out scurried the babies, from under the bamboos. Then all three went up the hill & behind the house. About a minute later, another large mongoose -- whom I judged to be papa -- went across the road and in the same direction as the family.
Other animals which are quite common are humming birds, lizards, blackbirds, and a small blackbird with a red throat.
Fruit & vegetables are abundant here and the following we have had for meals: tomatoes, avocados, lettuce, cucumbers, onions, cristofine, gourd, okra, egg plant, plantains, pidgeon peas, yams, potatoes, oranges, grapefruit, pineapple, star apple, [[?]]Mammet [[/?]] apple, custard apple, paw-paw, negberries, mangoes, and guavas. This is only to mention a few. Our bill of fare on this island has been the most satisfactory yet.

Dick was home most of the day. In the afternoon I wasn't feeling very well, so Dick read the book-length novel to me. "Love on the Run" by Alan Green and Julian Brodie--very amusing indeed!
Quite a bit of wind to night, yet it is not specially cool.

Nothing much except getting the house tidied a little & flowers in the vases. Spent most of the morning writing a letter to the family.
I digress here to tie in the stories we (or I) have been reading.
"Manhattan Murder" by Arthur Train. We finished reading in Barbados. - Fairly [[insert superscript]] good [[/insert superscript]]
"Stormy Hearts" - Eli Colter - a good western story with enough suspense.
[[strikethrough]] "Stormy Hearts [[/strikethrough]] "Double Indemnity" - James M. Cain. Interesting and not as annoying as the Postman.
"Francis The First" by Francis Hackett (William Heinemann 1934) - not as interesting or as amusing as Henry VIII. In spite of the author's attempts, Francis does not appear as a great man.
A week ago to-day I went to the
