Payson, Arizona. April 7, 1924. Dr J N. Rose. Washington D.C. My Dear Dr. Rose, I am very glad that the specimens I sent you recently reached you in fair condition - later on I will send you the seeds; - this year I shall plant the seeds and watch them. A few days ago I was on one of my "hikes", (I walk every where.) and found the Cotyledons growing on a hill about three miles from the first place I discovered them. I shall try and find just how far along my range, the Matzatgals, they are growing. I know exactly the conditions under which they thrive. The ones that I planted in camp are growing nicely and will soon be blooming. (Planted in Feb. 1923.) I shall watch carefully for the other kind you mentioned, also the small cactus with hooked spines. I feel greatly honored in having a plant named for me and it was so very kind of Dr. Thornber to suggest it. I shall try and photograph my Cotyledon "in place" this spring. I only wish that you and Dr. Thornber might see
