Dear Prof Hitchcock
I have just received your letter of Dec 11 and very glad to get it. Miss Niles was kind enough to cable me to my great relief. I had no idea that you were in such bad condition when you left Africa. You wrote what the Johannesburg Doctor said. You took far greater risks than you knew. Thank heaven
"luck [[underlined]] was [[/underlined]] with you" ^[[/insertion]] as you say [[/insertion]] and that the operation has been successful. I am glad you had special nurses and that you were treated well. I hope you are gaining strength rapidly and that you will feel like yourself again soon.
