and Polygalas I had separated out myself and given to Maxon, Kellip and Blake. These have never turned up, so far as I know, and Dahlgren had the impudence to tell the people at Jardin Botanico that it was useless to send Brasilian plants to US Nat Mus any more, that [[underlined]] Standley [[/underlined]] was at Field. Brasil plants should go there. I told them Standley had never worked on Bras. plants, that US Nat Mus was where every body came to study collections. De Silveira had messed up Erincaulaceae so horribly, and all his material is from Minas so my collections will be of use to somebody some day - anyhow Standley has gone and I know Killip will value them. ΒΆ I got a few little ferns, too. [[margin, vertical line in blue]] This is classic territory. Martins was here and Diamantina is cited by Nees again and again. [[/blue line in margin]] I wonder if Martins had as good a time here as I'm having. The summit is practically unspoiled. I struck out for another cross some 3 km away. This and the town below kept me from losing my way.
