Tuesday October 1st
Paris cold and clear this morning. Autumn has arrived - I found charming letters from Corrina Becka and a precious scrawl from my darling redhead, Lori - later in the day came a most welcome cable from Corrina saying "Passport issued" which [[insertion]] made [[/insertion]] the day a glorious one - also there was a letter from [[?]] concerning E.B. and by his own confession. recorded by D.W. in the communication - a complete justification of [[Harey's?]] and my actions - towards this [[?]] - silly youth who disgraced his uniform and the French Croix de Guerre he had earned. and more - D.W. is weak and foolish - and completely taken in by this E.B. who is a poor lot - rather than bad or vicious - Thank the Lord he is home. and I have nothing more to do with him and his affairs - - Had a pleasant interview with Carter - always so gracious and so appreciative of my aims and efforts - Good news comes to me that Sue and Billie Hibbard are coming out - and I have big work in mind for them in the office
Pauline Vignon poor girl has an abcess in each ear and has suffered a good deal - she will be away all the week no doubt.
Saw a crowd of new secretaries and did much business -
All afternoon was long with them and dined alone at Duval - and home early to bed.
Saw Jack and McCutchen before supper - and met Horace [[Sempe?]] and Sterling McKittrick in the hotel entrance - [[?]] (Major) is in Red Cross at Marseilles.
Wednesday October 2
Office all the morning - A reader of my diary would be surprised at the lack of war news -
