Sunday November 3                   
Gloomy day.  hard rain in the night
I am afraid the Fair will not be well patronized this afternoon unless the weather turns more propitious
No word of the "Rochambeau" this morning. 
Representing Mr Carter and meeting President Wilson's daughter - sounds very grand and important - but I can think of other Y.M.C.A work I'd rather be doing - Mr Carter particularly wanted me however so it's in the days work.
The news to-day - sells papers well - how it must sell them in the U.S.A. where they dress up the news with so many more frills than this Press does - I wish our Press would take some notice of the more dignified method used here - and profit by it - 
So the scare crow - the straw man - the great poseur - and the partner of "und Gott" is down and out - 
"The King is dead! God damn the King" what else can the Huns say. 
The Turk is down and out. and Austria is down and will be out in a day or so. 
I went to the French Line to ask if there was any news of the Rochambeau and received the same discorteous information which has always been given me in that office - manner. not material - I suppose they [[underlined]] do [[/underlined]] get tired answering questions - its no excuse for treating visitors (and clients too) like peddlers. 
The day was a good one for the Fair. and as a show man myself I was very pleased - I [[underlined]] did [[/underlined]]
