[[Line drawing:apparatus with areas labeled A-F]] A is a German silver wire, and B, an iron wire soldered together at C with silver. D-E, are brass supporting pieces screwed to the wooden block F. At the point where A & B were joined the metal was filed away as shown so as to have thin at the joint. Upon connecting A & B in circuit with a telephone (resistance of coil 6/10 ohm) and rheotome, and heating the junction C, a current was produced that made a sound in the telephone loud enough to be heard with the instrument several inches from the ear. The rheotome was then taken out of the circuit, and a jet of cold water Noted Oct. 2 - 1883 - over
