Know all men by these presents that I George Burckhartt jun. of Frederick County in the State of Maryland for divers good Causes & Considerations [m?]] hereunto moving as well as in Consideration of the faithfulness and integrity of the Negroe Girl herein after named and for whose benefit these presents are executed -- Have manumitted and to freedom set and by those presents do manumit enfranchise and set free my Negroe Girl named Barbara, alias Barb, now aged about fifteen years, from and after the end and expiration of fifteen years from the time of ensealing and delivery hereof -- And I do also manumit and to freedom set the Issue of the paid Negroe Girl Barb born within the Period of Servitude aforesaid, in the following manner to wit the Males at the age of twenty one years & Females at the age of sixteen years -- And I do hereby covenant promise and grant for myself my Executors and Administrators to suffer let and permit the paid Negroe Girl Barb & her Issue born as aforesaid, after the respective period of servitude aforesaid are expired, to act transact negotiate and perform all such lawful Business and Concerns and exercise such rights as persons born free can by the Laws of the Land execute and perform
