Know all men by these presents that we John B. Holmes [[strikethrough]] William D Braduax Daniel Wade [[/strikethrough]]  Frederick  [[illegible]] Broduax are
held and firmly bound unto Nicholas Sheffield in the
final sum of two hundred twenty three
dollars Sixty      cents of good and lawful money
of this state in which payment well and truly to be
made we bindd our selves our heirs executors administrators and assigns Jointly and severally sealed with
our seals and dated this 13th July 1822
     The condition of the above obligation are such that
whereas the said  Nicholas Sheffield had a writ
of facie facias issued from the Circuit Court of
Lawrence County against  Vivian B. Holmes by virtue
of said writ of facie facias to the sheriff of
said County directed, by which a levy has been
made upon several negroes now in the possession of
said  Vivian B. Holmes to wit.  Letty a negro woman
about eighteen years old Dick a boy about seventeen
years old
which negroes are claimed by the said  William
F. Broduax as agent of  John B. Holmes     by virtue 
of a deed of trust to him executed now should
it appear that the said claim has been made 
for the purpose of delaying the plaintiff in obtaining
his monies.  Then and in that case we bind our
selves to pay all damages to him the said plaintiff
occasioned by the delay, which may be assessed
by a Jury.  Otherwise the above bond to be null &
void.  The day and date above written .
The erasion in the first & second
lines, and interlination was made
before the assigning of these presents.
