Mon. JANUARY 2 *
Arthur baked early in morning. Painted on "Covered Boats and Trees." Made several small frames, one large one I took bread to Mrs Lister, had coffee with her, then Mr Lister came down and told of his play being produced in Paris, & royalties he'd received.
In afternoon I got some of my paintings out, decided "Paper Lace & Petunia" wouldn't do as it is, Arthur said he agreed.
Put "Paper House" in its Frame, we both still like it. Arthur said it was an absolute portrait of me as he thought of me.

Tues. JANUARY 3 *
Arthur painted on "Brown Trees" made frames. Sawed up a number of long lengths. I to Huntington.
In afternoon wrote to Dottie, Dorothy and Paul, and Mrs Dove. Arthur to Huntington for glass. Arthur wrote a thing on 291, very nice. He has a nostalgia for that place. I said; you feel Steiglitz has changed don't you, he said yes, he's changed, I've changed we've all changed - but I don't think I have so much. I read Jan. American Spectator in evening. A good piece; "Sophistication" by Van Wyck Brooks; and one by Harry Hazlitt; "In Praise of Escape." All the rest of the paper third to fourth rate.
