She reads it all to me with great emphasis and I tell her its immense.  She hates him soundly, and Mrs Laurence who just left the office with Mrs Lever says equally bad things about him.  Poor women.  What a world! What a life! Townsend is certainly a damned ----.  But what's the use.  He's too contemptible.  I tell Mrs Lever not to pay any attention to his vile remarks or to leave whenever he gets abusive & let him get over it - that is - if she feels like putting up with him at all.  She says he's fearfully afraid of the raging influenza - talks of wearing a mask and suggests she & the others in the office wear masks.

   On Sunday eve find letter from Carol. Look for a place to live once in the village.

Monday 21 Oct.  In to see Geo L Nelson's show at Braus [?] and get an adv for Art News from Braus also from Mossman.

Tuesday 22 Oct. Stop to see Marie G.  Call up Art News.  Mrs. Lever says Brinton had been in again great anxiety that I should do the Anisfeld show. Tell her I can't go till tomorrow.

Wednesday 23 Oct.  Over to Brooklyn Museum.  meet Brinton with Bourgeois and Anisfeld.  Downstairs.
