Friday 20 Feb  my birthday ^[[insert]] yesterday [[/insert]] stop over to see Paul Dougherty  not in - stop to see Alben Weir  down South for his health which is bad.  Sorry to hear it.  Back to see Carol.  Stop at McDonald Club see Miss Judson then call on Captain Nave and do a charcoal head of him in 35 minutes.  He is very much pleased with it.  Eve I go over to Alice Judsons studio and do a charcoal head of her.  She is very pleased with it.  Profile. 

Saturday 22 Feb Washington's birthday  stop into Ex. of Montross ps at A.A.A.  Crowd begins to come. Babcocks young assistant comes first.  Then Mrs. Nelson. while I'm talking to her Henry Poore comes up and thanks me for my note about his picture [[strikethrough]] of [[/strikethrough]] at Nat Arts Club.  Tell us about the picture by Chase here at this sale which once [[strikethrough]] [[he?]] [[/strikethrough]] belonged to him.  Asks me if I'm going to Gloucester again.  I tell him about my newspaper. and he says he's just written article on Sterling Calder for "Studio".  Henry White comes over to me with enthusiasm.  I tell him

about the new paper The millionaire. (Mrs. Nelson says she'll subscribe)  White looks better than I've ever seen him and he says his family have all been ill this winter with grip & he hasn't done any painting.  Catch glimpse of Griffin.  Later find Griffin in big room talking to Hassam.  Touch Griff on arm & tell him about Babcocks.  Says he got my note & went in.  Says doesn't know as he has the stuff but will hunt around.  Griff introduces Hassam and I tell H about the paper and ask him who'd write about him.  He says Griff.  Asks me if I read his thing about Twachtman  Says they sold very well the Ts at Macbeths.  H says he thinks Mrs. T needed the money.  Griff says all the dealers are now after his work.  Good.  I think I have had something to do with that.  putting him in Folsomes - Mussmans - Babcocks.  Good for Griff.  Mussman says Griff told him didn't think he had any more pastels.  Crowd commences to get thick at the A. A. A. evident "everybody" will be there.  Griff says Bartlett might write about him.  Good.  Hassam says Griffin was telling him about my paper.  Griff keeps saying "Good for you Jimmy"  "Good boy"  That's the stuff.  Griff gotten up rather smart.  Fine overcoat stick spats [[tape?]] glasses  face purplish and very distinguished.  Bolt out to see Frances Murphy over in the Chelsea.  Find Murphy at the door of his apartment
