roads were excellent.  Stamford seems to have quite some summer visitors, pretty valley along Catskill mountains. Many farms well kept. Many cattle and dairies (Susquehanna River?) then Stamford and Oneonta then from Oneonta over Unadilla Brainhedge to Binghamton where we arrived shortly after 7 P.M  We had had some delay on account of violent shower which compelled to stop during last stretch so as to raise the windows and shelter us.  Our mileage is over 250 miles. [[red underlined]] Arlington [[/red underlined]] Hotel would be excellent but for the fact that it is in the [[red underlined]] very noisy neighborhood [[/red underlined]] of station and trains etc. Fearful noise. Cheerful trip. [[strikethrough]] so we d [[/strikethrough]] Eveng all went to see the Movies.

June 2. Up early. Left at about 9. [[strikethrough]] [[?]] [[/strikethrough]] [[underlined]] 15 [[/underlined]] A.M. [[strikethrough]] took wrong road [[/strikethrough]] over Owego. there took wrong road had to return.

then over Candon to Ithaca.  Most of the road very good, some stretches mediocre towards Ithaca saw Cayuga Lake from the heights then descent over muddy steep road. [[red underlined]] Just when entering town George who had been [[/red underlined]] awaiting our arrival [[red  underlined]] jumped aboard [[/red underlined]] more alert than ever. [[red underlined]] Looks well, [[/red underlined]] bronzed face, he [[red underlined]] runs about [[strikethrough]] in his [[/strikethrough]] [[red underlined]] bare headed, [[/red underlined]] without hat. Drove us to [[red underlined]] the hotel, [[/red underlined]] then took us to the [[/red underlined]] Llenroc his fraternity house.  [/red underlined]] which is the old Cornell Mansion.  Beautifully situated with a broad view over the town and the Lake, splendid lawn around [[red underlined]] everything so quiet peaceful and lovely. and all this broken up by that war!  George seems to know every birds nest around showed me two of his nests, robins, and scarlet tannagers.  [[/red underlined]] Then he drove us over the Campus, [[strikethrough]] showed [[/strikethrough]] the Agricultural College, the gorge, and waterfalls etc. [[red underlined]] 2000 students [[/red underlined]]
