May 19. (Sunday) Arrived in New York. Albert came to fetch me at University Club. Lunch at home. Left again on 5:10 P.M train for [[underlined in red]] New London [[/underlined in red]] with members of [[underlined in red]] Naval Board. [[/underlined in red]] Arrived there at hotel at 9 P.M. 
Hotel much crowded with Naval officers and Seamen of all ranks. 
Conference with [[underlined in red]] Capt. Hepworth, Commander McDowell and Capt. Roberson. [[/underlined in red]] Latter had to leave. Conference till 11:30 P.M. Discussing means and tactics for submarine chasing.

May 20. At 9 P.M went to [[underlined in red]] Naval Station [[/underlined in red]] where different devices were explained and shown in detail. Am impressed with their simplicity 
Called C. [[underlined in red]] tubes, [[/underlined in red]] and M. C. tubes etc. etc. all seem practical. Then motored to dock where went aboard of [[underlined in red]] submarine chasers. [[/underlined in red]] I am on [[underlined in red]] flag ship with Capt. Cronin. [[/underlined in red]] Most of the men of the crew are naval reserves. [[underlined in red]] Splendid set of men, intelligent [[/underlined in red]] and business like looking lot. Beautiful weather. The [[underlined in red]] "sub" [[/underlined in red]] went ahead of us camouflaged in various colors. We follow in formation. Tests for location [[underlined in red]] rapid and accurate. [[/underlined in red]]
