Cold raw weather Decided to go further South but not beyond reasonable shelter. Strong North Westerly Went thru cut then into [[red underline]] Tarpon Basin, [[/red underline]] all nicely indicated with new posts then into next. Sound. Seems to be some error there in pilot guide which directs 215 [[image-degrees]]. True or SW by S. which seems to put us too much Westward for the next cut which is well marked with beacons and sign posts. Then the route to [[red underline]] Pigeon Key [[/red underline]] also seems off somewhat. It is indicated 231 [[image--degree]] True or SW 3/8 W. while we had to steer SW by S But there is little trouble in finding the way because [[red underline]] Pigeon Island [[/red underline]] stands out

plainly and the rock and shoal half way are well marked with stakes between which is the passage. The rock has a slatted black red and white horizontal beacon. There is also a white square beacon of Pigeon Island to mark the shoal around the Island. The next shoal towards Hammer Point is well marked by two red beacons. We tried to explore the bay beyond Hammer Point so as to study it for a possible shelter. Altho' chart indicated 5 to 3 feet of water, wind swept us in and [[red underline]] before we knew it we were stranded on hard flat bottom or bow pointing S-SE [[/red underline]] and we are rather exposed to the waves picked up by N.W. wind We dropped kedge anchor from bow S. SW and one from stern W.S.W.
