Sept 29. Left with [[red underline]] George Roll for Ion, to Perth [[/red underline]] Amboy. Departure from Spuyten Duivil about 2 P.M. little wind but gray hazy and sultry. Arrived Perth Amboy about 6 P.M During night rain
Sept 30. Heavy showers and gray dreary morning Unpleasant weather. SE blowing. [[red underline]] George Roll [[/red underline]] got seasick. We went ashore about 11 A.M. to plant of General [[red underline]] Bakelite Co. [[/red underline]] then with Rossi and George Roll for lunch to Packer House then back to factory, showed plant to George, and had long conference with Rossi about [[red underline]] wood alcohol situation [[/red underline]] at which George Roll was present. At about 5 P.M. returned to Ion but

water was so rough that I advised [[red underline]] George Roll [[/red underline]] to go and sleep in hotel. Boarded Ion under difficulties. Big waves sweeping over float of club. [[strikethrough]] Got [[/strikethrough]] Felt glad to be aboard instead of having to go to hotel.
[[red underline]] Shrimpe [[/red underline]] gave me results of optical tests of his material which show [[red underline]] decidedly greater refraction index. [[/red underline]]

Got up to examine both anchor cables which had crossed. Just about this time wind shifts suddenly to West, moon pierces and weather moderates. Then calm cool night.
