At 2:30 P.M went to see Schleussner explained prospect of distribution of funds so as to neutralize other groups distribution of $50000. Also spoke about my willingness to serve as President of Merger ^[[Merger]] Co, If I could have an assistant. I am willing to serve without salary if a [[red underline]] suitable [[/red underline]] assistant can be furnished. The latter must be either a large stockholder in the company or a man I can trust and can be made acquainted with all the details of the company. [[red underline]] Schleussner [[/red underline]] took a piece of paper and before I had expressed myself wrote down the name of [[red underline]] George Roll [[/red underline]] and showed it to me.
At 4:10 meeting of faculty of Applied Science in Columbia

Dec 20. Hays telephones that Goldsmith the lawyer of the Chicago Group wired contract was acceptable but for some details which had to be discussed between themselves on Thursday 22.
[[red underline]] Gothelf [[/red underline]] came to laboratory and has definitely decided to give up his position so as to be in a better condition to take care of his health. Suggested to him we would keep him on pay roll till end of year. Everything concluded with utmost friendliness.
Told him also about probability of reorganization of Bakelite Co 
4.P.M. lecture by Professor [[red underline]] Moureu [[/red underline]] of the College de France on rare elements in natural gases.
