[[/underline]] All this at noon in full daylight  [[underline]] Kandy [[/underline]] itself a pretty place. See Guide Book. [[underline]] Hotel Good, [[/underline]] and [[underline]] excellent service [[/underline]] by tall moustached, Cingaleze - barefooted and in white trousers & ditto jacket. I found several tables occupied by the [[underline]] Japanese [[/underline]] and [[underline]] Chinese passengers [[/underline]] of the [[underline]] Fushimi [[/underline]] who had arrived earlier not having gone to Mount Lavinia.

X Queens Hotel Kandy
a Cingaleze who sells curious at a reasonable price. His name is [[underline]] A.R. Casse Lebbe X. [[/underline]] I bought an old silver inlaid [[underline]] Cingaleze knife [[/underline]] from him for 20 Rupees. Knife said to be the kind given as a present by the former King of [[strikethrough]] Ceylon [[/strikethrough]] [[underline]] Kandy to his officers. [[/underline]] I bought also some [[underline]] blue moonstone shirt buttons [[/underline]] and [[underline]] cuff buttons. [[/underline]] 
[[left margin]] Still use them 1939 [[/left margin]] 
When he heard I was from Columbia University he added as a present some uncut moonstones. They are very abundant here. All day we had occasional showers of short duration followed by sunshine. The [[underline]] temperature [[/underline]] was [[underline]] very pleasant. Altho' this is the hot season. [[/underline]] Climate of [[underline]] Kandy [[/underline]] at a certain altitude seems very pleasant. Was back in [[underline]] Colombo [[/underline]] at about 5 P.M.
