Evening [[underlined]] Robson [[/underlined]] of P&J came to fetch me [[underlined]] in his car [[/underlined]] at my hotel took me to his house somewhere situated near a Park, and with terrace entrance. Rather pretentious paneled oak and expensive

furniture. His [[underlined]] sister [[/underlined]] speaks with decided [[underlined]] German [[/underlined]] accent and is undoubdetly Jewish. His wife dead. He had invited a young [[strikethrough]] sea capt [[/strikethrough]] [[underlined]] English sea-captain. Choice Champagne or ale, [[/underlined]] chose the latter. Well prepared dinner.

When I [[underlined]] left dense fog over London so thick progress was slow and difficult as lights were entirely obliterated. Yet heavy motor traffic was very orderly [[/underlined]] and no noise whatever. [[underlined]] Flaring kerosene pressure torches were placed at difficult crossing [[/underlined]] as they were more visible to the drivers than the higher electric lamps.  [[underlined]] Had this been in Paris there would have been no end of noise of motor horns. Here all was silent except the drumming of the motors. Finally reached hotel in motor car of Robson, [[/underlined]] otherwise
