[[underlined]] April 23. [[/underlined]] Busy morning. Then long talk with [[underlined]] Griffith who is superseded [[/underlined]] by [[double underlined]] Horn [[/double underlined]] as accountant and leaves our service. He wrote a long letter of [[underlined]] recriminations against George Roll and Layman, [[/underlined]] to whom he attributes his dismissal 
Told him frankly that present condition had arisen not because his work is unsatisfactory but because he has not measured up to the standard of a man of initiative who could handle his important department. That I personally was very reluctant to see him

go. That [[underlined]] I had been warned that he was not the man [[/underlined]] to take the initiative and head [[underlined]] his department. [[/underlined]] That nevertheless I had ordered to give him a chance to show what he could do. As bookkeeping is a subject where I have to abide entirely by the advice of others am compelled to act accordingly. 
Undoubdetly [[underlined]] George Roll has made matters worse [[/underlined]] by his lack of tact. [[underlined]] By the time I am pretty well convinced that there is not a man in the whole organization of Bakelite who has much use [[strikethrough]] of [[/strikethrough]] for George Roll. He lacks tact and information and instead of attending to his own responsibilities he mixes in where he does not belong and where he is not qualified. Had long talk with George Roll expressing him my advice in a friendly way so as not to hurt him more than I can help. [[/underlined]]
