[[underlined]]An American woman with rasping, monotonous, nasal voice keeps talking unceasingly to her patient husband.[[\underlined]]  What I [[underlined]]cannot understand[[\underlined]] is [[underlined]]why some women[[\underlined]] who [[underlined]]spend most of their leisure time looking at their hand mirror[[\underlined]] and [[underlined]]painting their lips and face[[\underlined]] and [[underlined]]buying showy expensive clothes are so limited[[\underlined]] in [[underlined]]intelligence[[\underlined]] and [[underlined]]imagination[[\underlined]] that all their strenuous efforts to appear attractive [[underlined]]are killed off[[\underlined]] by a [[underlined]]rasping, unpleasant voice[[\underlined]] and [[underlined]]pronunciation[[\underlined]] or slovenly, illiterate use of English, and a [[underlined]]cheerless countenance.[[\underlined]]

[[underlined]]Oct 12.[[\underlined]]  Arrived Paris at 10.A.M.  Rush to Steamer office then to Bank.  Left Gare St. Lazare 3 P.M.  [[underlined]]Paris[[\underlined]] is a [[underlined]]noisy crowded city like most large cities.  If the average Parisian waiter or man in the street ever was polite, they certainly have lost the habit of it.[[\underlined]]
Feel tired and ill.  Bad cold and sore throat.  My left ear is half deaf and has a ringing noise.  [[underlined]]Glad I am returning home.[[\underlined]]
At Havre same formalities, [[underlined]]baggage leaving to be inspected,[[\underlined]] passports, then declaration that one [[underlined]]does not take money out of France[[\underlined]] etc.
My [[underlined]]room[[\underlined]] in steamer is [[underlined]]large but not cheerful[[\underlined]] and is rather awkwardly arranged.
