our needs and income. That it would be impractical to reorganise with a man at the head who has a grudge against us. Therefore it was proposed to pay him [[red underline]] until Dec. 31-1932 right now and he should consider himself disengaged [[/red underline]] which would give him more opportunity to look around for another position. That by his recent actions he had made it impossible for me to use my persuasion towards the Operating Committee to make him more favorable terms etc. He broke down again as he had done in a previous interview with George and I left him sobbing in my office so I went out for awhile until he had recovered his self control.
He denied that he had said anything contrary to the corporations interests. He told me that Redman had assured him repeatedly that his position with our corporation was "for life". - I told him that [[strikethrough]] when [[/strikethrough]] if [[red underline]] Dr. Redman [[/red underline]] had assured him such a broad statement, might have been made imprudently and in good faith by a man who then did not conceive that our company ever could land in its present predicaments. That furthermore [[red underline]] Dr. Redman [[/red underline]] had no right to make such a promise. I refused to tell him [[strikethrough]] the [[/strikethrough]] who had reported about his denunciating attitude towards our company. The man undoubtedly is very impulsive and quick to flare up and of a nervous temperament. No wonder he has made few friends around him.
Nevertheless I felt very pained to have to talk thus to him. I sooner forego any dividends in

our corporation than to have to act thus towards any of our employees. [[red underline]] Weith [[/red underline]] seems anxious to get rid of him - so is [[red underline]] Rossi and Sanford Brown [[/red underline]]. It is no pleasant job to President and executioner in such cases.
Altho' I told T. that I would send him our check in full to Dec 31, and a letter of canceling his services. I shall wait a few days until I have taken up once more the subject with George B. after his return from his vacation.
[[red underline]] I feel entirely upset [[/red underline]] and spent a sleepless night. If I had my own way I would keep him in service until July 1-1933, even if I expect no gratitude whatever from Taylor. But they all urge me to drop him and I must [[strikethrough]] have their [[/strikethrough]] listen to them in our program of retrenchment if I want to keep the full good will of the men on whom I depend in present critical conditions
