[[underlined]] Nov 29 [[/underlined]] Another beautiful day. Drove to Little's laboratory & offices well situated on the shore of the Charles River. An imposing 3 story building, which looks more like a government institution than a private research and consultation office. Laboratories well planned and well manned. A small museum showing samples of Little's work adjoins the office entrance [[strikethrough]] Took the [[/strikethrough]] Little was there to show me around. Took steamer at 5 P.M for returning. - Interesting passage thru Cape Cod - Canal, well illuminated during the night. Arrived in New York 7:10 A.M. took breakfeast aboard, then Dick took me to Yonkers

Baekeland, Cornelia Dickie, & Brooksie. Little Freddie [[/underlined in red]] who is still forbidden to walk was carried in. He is very wide awake and lively like an eel and cheerful Endlessly full of questions, why, why & why. A very [[underlined in red]] quick witted, intelligent little fellow. [[/underlined in red]] He was full of excitement about a flying [[underlined in red]] Japanese top [[/underlined in red]] I had brought from Boston Also a [[underlined in red]] toy motor-car, [[/underlined in red]] molded of Bakelite and run by a spring-clock. work which I found at German Bakelite Gesellschaft & [[strikethrough]] all [[/strikethrough]] molded of Bakelite.
In the evening [[underlined in red]] Sylvester Roll [[/underlined in red]] and [[underlined in red]] all the Roll children came for [[/underlined in red]] a short visit, except little [[underlined in red]] Peter [[/underlined in red]] who has been in bed with a cold

[[underlined]] Dec 1 [[/underlined]] [[underlined in red]] Miss Birdwells [[/underlined in red]] mother died and she asked for leave; will be back tuesday Bliss(?) of an insurance Co came to induce me to take life insurance Called in George to discuss it. [[strikethrough]] Then afterwards [[/strikethrough]] I find insurance could be taken on my life by Celine and thus a fund provided for meeting my estate taxes. Hays came in later and I left office too late for train time so went for supper at University Club

[[/underlined]] Called Mr [[underlined in red]] Wellington Porter [[/underlined in red]] to Yonkers to discuss [[striekthrough]] insu [[/strikethrough]] life insurance. in presence of George. He left about 12 M. Will study the subject. Very mild weather again. Busy all day on [[underlined in red]] calculations, income taxes, [[strikethrough]] des [[/strikethrough]] estate [[/underlined in red]] taxes and what not. - [[underlined in red]] How simple was life before this damnable war, when there were no taxes and all their complications! [[underlined]] Dec 3 Sunday [[/underlined]] All day on same subject of income taxes. with all the uncertitudes of what Washington and the congres will do to further upset everything

[[underlined in red]] Peter [[/underlined in red]] his [[underlined in red]] brother [[/underlined in red]] and [[underlined in red]] Ninette Roll [[/underlined in red]] here [[underlined in red]] for dinner. [[/underlined in red]] This is first time Peter left his bed. [[strikethrough]] and [[/strikethrough]] That tooth when he lost by a fall a few years ago - a milk tooth - is now growing again. [[underlined in red]] Ninette looks very well [[/underlined in red]] and pretty, and is full of animation and [[underlined in red]] talks as fast as a rattle. [[/underlined in red]] Cheerful and vivacious. Says [[underlined in red]] she likes her boarding school [[/underlined in red]] very much and seems to mean it. [[underlined in red]] A charming [[/underlined in red]] but, [[underlined in red]] lively [[/underlined in red]] child; quick witted, but [[underlined in red]] full of mischief [[/underlined in red]] altho [[underlined in red]] kind hearted & generous [[/underlined in red[[ but very [[underlined in red]] impulsive.
