Evening at 7:30 went to [[red underlined]] Hackett [[/red underlined]] school to meet [[overwritten]] men [[/overwritten]] young men and women of various countries of Europe who come here as exchange students under our [[red underlined]] Institute of International [[/red underlined]] Education and who are having their first days meetings and lecture at Hacketts School in Riverdale. A fine set of young men and women.  Hackett made a good address then [[red underlined]] Murrow, [[/red underlined]] Sec'y to Duggan then [[red underlined]] Stephen Duggan [[/red underlined]] who terminated in requesting me to talk to them. -

The new [[red underlined]] furnace for the greenhouses [[/red underlined]] has arrived. It was a wonder that the old furnace merely a piece of rust has stood so long. [[red underlined]] Dr Rene Sand [[/red underlined]] technical adviser to the [[strikethrough]] Red [[/strikethrough]] International Red Cross, came to visit me in the office, and is on his way to [[red underlined]] China [[/red underlined]] over [[red underlined]] California and thence back over India [[/red underlined]] to Paris where he has an office.  Had a pleasant chat and reminiscences. He [[red underlined]] seems in excellent health [[/red underlined]] and spirit much interested in his work
2 P.M. [[red underlined]] Dr. Whitaker [[/red underlined]] met me and George by his request. He is just [[red underlined]] back from Europe and told [[/red underlined]] his experiences in [[red underlined]] Germany where nobody seemed to know anything [[/red underlined]] and only guessed at the recent [[red underlined]] killings. [[/red underlined]] It was only when arriving in Switzerland that he began to have some news. 
Says that there is a [[red underlined]] strong undercurrent of unrest in France and that everybody seems to think further political scandals [[/red underlined] will be vented before long in connection with the [[red underlined]] Saviski affair.
