I wrote a long letter to George. Special delivery and Air Mail, describing our situation and telling that this will delay my return until repairs. Andrew delivered letter to the postman's motor car which he found stopped at the West end of the Bridge and takes it to Key-West. Andrew reports no machine shop available except in Key West. He got the help of a young man at No Name Key Ferry landing (Weathers?) to help him detaching the engine to remove broken part which took arduous work till about 7 P.M., so as to take it tomorrow morning early to Key West by bus, and to wait there till new part was ready to bring back.
This fire came as a disagreeable surprise to everybody. [[underlined]] May 1 [[\underlined]] Andrew left 7 A.M. for Key-West with broken parts. Gave him $50.00 in cash besides the 10$ I had given him. There found a Mr. Wilson (Varnish Mfr) who with his motor boat [[?Full hour]] had just brought in a large tarpon longer than I am tall. Got a glass of beer at the little restaurant and a young man from Ohio who is spending his vacation here fishing with his wife drove me back in his motor car.
