[[red underlined]]] Lord Grimthorpe [[/red underlined]] one of the principal bettors and his tall good natured [[red underlined]] mother [[/red underlined]] sitting next to him, following the proceedings, while assiduously knitting.  Thus setting an example to all the idle, rouged bare shouldered young women drinking cocktails etc, sitting around, some of them half tipsy (all American women)

[[red underlined]] Prince Louis Ferdinand [[/red underlined]] came [[strikethrough]] in an [[/strikethrough]] in with a slender young blonde German, blue eyed girl and both took a high stool near the rail of the bar counter and was joined by three or four young Germans, and seemed all to be good friends.  I noticed however that [[red underlined] none drank cocktails. [[/red underlined]] They limited themselves to [[strikethrough]] beer [[/strikethrough]] small glasses of beer.  The prince seemed much in love with his blond young girl, [[strikethrough]] and [[/strikethrough]] stroking her hands and arm and casting greeting smiles and hand signs to another young blond German girl, sitting at a distant table with some other young Germans.  This was about 10 P.M. and so to bed! while the smoking room gathering kept on.
