[[underlined]] Sept 26. [[/underlined]] Another cold but bright day. Celine received letter from [[red underlined]] George [[/red underlined]] written on SS. Europa telling how happy and [[red underlined]] well behaved Dickie [[/red underlined]] is.  Dr. Edward Dr Armstrong of England [[strikethrough]] was on same boat.

I received a long letter from [[red underlined]] George [[/red underlined]] dated September 14 on steamer "Europa" in which he describes why [[red underlined]] reconciliation [[/red underlined]] with [[red underlined]] Cornelia is impossible [[/red underlined]] and how for years of agony, trying to improve her he has postponed parting. His very serious reasons so well explained in his letter leave no doubt to me that divorce is the only solution. Not only for them but for the best interests of the children; who undoubtedly have long ago lost respect for their mother. 
Started the furnace today.

[[underlined]] Sept. 27 [[/underlined]] (Sunday) [[red underlined]] Talked over family matters with Celine [[/red underlined]].  The situation of George's family, his wife, his children and their future. - The questions also was raised [[red underlined]] who would preside Bakelite if George came to die prematurely [[\red underlined]] after I was dead etc. [[red underlined]] Also, how to prevent that George should lose controling vote in Bakelite, after the grandchildren had reached the age where they were entitled to part and afterwards full control of their [[\red underlined]] respective irrevocable trust funds. [[/red underline]]
[[underlined]] Sept. 28 [[/underlined]]. Andrew writes me that [[red underlined]] large Royal Palm [[/red underlined]] in front of northerly Giant Bamboo has died off, slowly since last Novembers hurricane; due to salt spray and lack of rain.  Told him to cut it and not replace it as it stands to near the bamboo which lashes it in any strong winds. 
This afternoon had visit of Howard Coffin, who came to talk about an organised plan, for informing the people of real conditions as to general economies etc of the country.
