[[underlined]] May 24. [[/underlined]] Received a letter from Dr. Thomas Barbour of Harvard asking for further support to the David Fairchild Garden donation. Wrote him why pressed financial situation prevents this
[[underlined]] May 25. [[/underlined]] Finished packing. Avocados this year are abundant and better than ever before the Akee trees are also bearing and some of [[strikethrough]] the fruit is [[/strikethrough]] their fruit is opening
[[underlined]] May 26 [[/underlined]] Since  [[strikethrough]] this [[/strikethrough]] ^[[past]] night we have copious rains, and the drought seems broken. 
Wrote letter to Dr. Thomas Barbour telling why at present cannot contribute more to the Fairchild Garden.

[[underlined]] May 27. [[/underlined]] As usually had simplified matters by taking my food and wine along, so as to be able to take my meals in my room. Boiled eggs, sardines and canned goods, bread and cheese, and fruits. - Thus avoiding the bother of going to the dining car. Restful night

[[underlined]] May 28. [[/underlined]] When awakening had passed Washington. Light fog over whole landscape until nearing New York. Arrived exactly on time 9 A.M. Dick there with station wagon. Station crowded with passengers and tourists on account of holiday. Arrived in Yonkers about 11 A.M. Celine well and cheerful. Garden is at its best. - Beautiful and serene and quiet. Same marvelous landscape. - Difficult to imagine this sudden change of surroundings. Good news of whole family. After unpacking my baggage and large amounts of excellent mangos felt very tired and went to bed
