Am now expecting another letter from Hixson.  Meantime am delaying answer to Dean Barker's letter, until I get a further letter from Hixson.
[[underlined]] Jan 18. [[/underlined]]  Made up my mind to visit the men in Miami who are [[underlined]] trying to make my Diesel-motor work. [[/underlined]]  Contrary to what I feared I met 2 unassuming but intelligent and well posted men. - They showed me [[underlined]] all the trouble was due to 3 or 4 drops of condensing water [[/underlined]] mixed with the lubricating oil in the ignition pin.  One came around to the boat and succeeded to make the engine work.  This seems the end of our troubles, caused primarily by the fact that the Engine in the boat remains idle when in storage.  Hence condensation of moist air into drops of water, which

This early morning lowest temperature 42°F.  But bright and sunny, temp increasing to normal.
Afternoon went out with ION Andrew and Row colored; with me to try the engine.  First everything went well then engine stopped several times in succession when we were near Matheson's Island.  Meantime our row boat had broken loose.  Fortunately had the large Evinrude aboard which is to be fastened on stern for such emergencies.  This and a jib sail permitted us to get back slowly into my harbor by about 5.P.M.  Otherwise a beautiful clear day.
