[[underline]] July 31. [[/underline]] Pleasant cooler night. Warm but bright weather.

Went to office and guided by one of our men, visited the [[red underline]] many private offices of Bakelite division. -  Everyone is cheerful [[/red underline]] and satisfied. - Then to University Club for lunch. Reports from Europe indicate that [[red underline]] bragging Hitler [[/red underline]] and his group who threatened to over run the [[red underline]] British Isles [[/red underline]] have decided to postpone their announced "Blitzkrieg". - The British keep very steady and courageous. Several of his former friends are dropping him and are joining the Republican group. - Among them his former friend [[red underline]] Gov. Smith, [[/red underline]] who openly declares himself in favor of [[red underline]] Willike, [[/red underline]] the Republican candidate

A beautiful day

Dick took me with the car to [[red underline]] "Jones Beach" [[/red underline]] along a beautiful parkway, a continuation of excellent roads, lined with woodlands, all well kept. [[red underline]] "Jones Beach", [[/red underline]] conceived and built up by that great city and Park builder. It forms a small island with everything bathers or excursionists could wish. A paradise for children and their parents. - Offering endless varieties including a theater restaurants, boat excursions, resthouses, an indian camp - endless white sand, to lie in while basking in the sun. - Excellent well trained employes. - Never have I seen a more cheerful and well behaved crowd. Celine writes me she will return August 8. Received a letter from [[red underline]] Lowson [[/red underline]] that his nephew and niece are waiting to go to Canada via U.S after all the endless formalitites in England are complied with. The son intends to go to [[red underline]] McGill [[/red underline]] University where he can enter the class of 1942 thru his preliminary english school training.
