This is the [[red underline]] 51 anniversary of our wedding. So Dick drove us to Jones' Beach, [[/red underline]] which I visited yesterday. Jone's Beach was at its best. Enormous number of visitors from small children to old people. All enjoying the endless opportunities of this creation of Mr. Moses, who runs the place for the City of New York. With Celine this is her first visit and like everyone is much impressed: Of all bathing places I have seen during my long life, None whatever begins to compare with it. [[underline]] August 3. [[/underline]] A letter from [[strikethrough]] Flowers [[/strikethrough]] [[red underline]] Flowerdew Lowson [[/red underline]] in England concerning his [[red underline]] 2 grandchildren [[/red underline]] he wants to send here for the war. His grandson 16 years is said to be very intelligent and has qualified for MacGill University in Montreal with credit for his former schooling. Celine tells me that his sister altho' 18 year old is not so well developed as her brother. Their arrival in New York has been

postponed, because all berts of American steamers leaving Brittain were filled.

Still [[red underline]] no news [[/red underline]] whatever from any of our [[red underline]] 8 members of our family, [[/red underline]] from whom we have no information since the beginning of the war. - So we do not know whence and where they have fled. 
[[underline]] Aug 4 [[/underline]] (Sunday) Beautiful weather. Putting things in order. Also made some more wine "port type" by adding some burnt caramel and some alcohol from wine to it. - Also a ^[[very]] small amount of citric acid. - See recipe. 
[[underline]] Aug 5. [[/underline]] Celine arrived O.K at her camp in the Adirondacks. 80°F; less than some former days last week 
[[underline]] Aug.6. [[/underline]] Hot weather. Went out walking around the neighborhood and in Yonkers. - [[red underline]] Feel like a stranger and looked with interest on the various corners I had forgotten [[/red underline]] about since I went to live at Snug Rock. - Was favorably impressed with the clean and pleasant ways the [[red underline]] Yonkers Trolley Cars [[/red underline]] are run.
