Feb 14, 1932. Skinned & made up a beautiful male ^ [[insertion]] evening [[/insertion]] grosbeak brot me by Mrs Merrill yesterday - a long & hectic day.
Feb 15, 1932. Left Portland at 900 AM with Fugate - eastbound. ^ [[insertion]] Conference with Marble [[Land?]] R. [[/insertion]] Stopped in The Dalles for a conference with Ray Laurence who seemed to be getting along O.K. Ray - Laurence & I mixed one ton of barley for gray diggers & 500 # of oats for use against the little [[underlined]] Oregonus [[/underlined]] squirrels in  Antelope Valley - the first preparations for the spring campaign. Ray & I then proceeded to Arlington arriving at 700 PM. 
[[underlined]] Feb 16, 1932 [[/underlined]] Left Arlington 830 AM with Fugate and traveled via John Day highway to Canyon City.
Birds were remarkable scarce on trip saw numerous [[check mark]] [[underlined]] Horned Larks [[/underlined]] particularly on the higher lands where snow was not so deep.

[[check mark]] [[underlined]] Brewer Blackbird [[/underlined]] 13 in Mayville) Gilliam Co.
[[check mark]] [[underlined]] American Merganser. [[/underlined]] numerous in John Day River in little companies of usually one male in bright plumage & 2 or 3 gs.
[[check mark]] [[underlined]] Blue Heron [[/underlined]] - 3 rather dejected looking individuals sitting with humps in their backs.
[[check mark]] [[underlined]] Robin [[/underlined]] Area in John Day Valley. 
[[check mark]] [[underlined]] Meadowlark [[/underlined]] - several in lower " " " [[dittos for: John Day Valley]]
[[check mark]] [[underlined]] China Pheasant [[/underlined] - about 25 - all in " " " [[dittos for: John Day Valley]]
[[check mark]] [[underlined]] Townsend Solitaire [[/underlined]] 2
[[underlined]] Juncos [[/underlined]] - 1 flock. [[check mark]] [[underlined]] Raven [[/underlined]] 1
Saw no hawks - shrikes etc
arrived at Canyon City. Saw Jim
