Washingtons Birthday so I went to office and worked all day. Dictated many letters and cleaned up a lot of stuff so that my desk is clear of all but a few current matters. Carl Shoemaker came down to see me and Cottum was over to talk things over with me. Home in evening & catalogued accumulated birds.

At office early. Tremendous days work. Saw McAttee, Sheldon, Henderson for long conference. Dr Fisher for lunch. Saw Ratcliffe and Appleby. Told Appleby about Okefenokee and about the unfortunate impression the Secretarys speech made. He agreed to try & get the secretary to put some conservation stuff in his speech.
Jump phoned that house sub committee had cut out half of budget increases. I am certainly disgusted with it all. Expect to raise all the hell I can. Went over maps with Lincolns for final review. Fechner came thru with a three months appointment for Berry to write up CCC activity. Home for dinner & worked on book.
