To office early and prepared more for the hearings. Went to Senate Appropriations committee and sat all day long listening to hearings and learned a lot. Forest service came in with a dozen senators. Senator Thomas came in & spoke up for us without any appropriation pending. Hope I get a break tomorrow on some of my items.

To Office & then to Senate hearings. Finally got on the stand. Felt very nervous but managed to get by. Tugwell, Jump, McNary & Hayden all said I did well. Hope we get some money. Clara & the kids came and we drove to N.Y. arriving about 9.30 at Guys. Had a very fine day for the trip. Delaware river was so dirty that I don't see how anyone could cross it and not become a convert to an anti pollution fight.

Drove home leaving N.Y. at 930 arriving here in a pouring rain at seven p.m. Never saw it rain any harder than it did from Baltimore down here
