Saw two [[underlined]]red sage cocks[[/underlined]] beside the road in Harding as S.D. just south of Buffalo the first I ever saw in the state and also six antelope 2-2-1-1- all very tame. saw a flock of [[underlined]]Pinion Jays[[/underlined]] in edge of Rapid City

Left Rapid City 500AM & drove thru the edge of Black Hills to Hots Springs & then east to Martin & La Creek Teal Refuge. It had rained in hills & roads were slow. Arrived at noon at La Creek & spend day in looking over refuge. This is a honey but I feel requires some expert handling. Young may be a good man when he gets his feet on the ground. Fencing desperately needed. No young ducks out yet and we may have flooded early nests. Policy should be to get the things as near full as possible in early spring. Refuge finely conceived & a dandy. On to Valentine at 700PM.

Moved over to cabin in hills about noon fished a little & had a fish feed at 2.30. Fished again in evening.
