Aug 30, 36 at home. Broadwater Girls out for dinner and I took a train at 5:00 PM for Grand Rapids. Henry Davis on train. Aug 31, 1936 Delayed by freight wreck south of Pittsburg and didn't arrive at Grand Rapids until 6:00 PM. Conferred with various people. Sept 1, 1936 Talked for half an hour with Game Management. No bad reactions and when waterfowl was opened for discussion nothing said detrimental to Survey. Conferred with Hicks, Bode, Ted Doremus Chalk, Quinn, Tucker, Stobie Arthur Clark and numerous others. Sept 2, 1936 Left with Dan Jantzen for a trip over to Seney. Drove north and was soon out of rain. Beautiful day & we arrived at Manistique 9:00 PM Sept 3, 1936 To Seney where I interviewed Herman & Strang also Peter Trudell. Listened to story. Believe Herman sincere and Strang man behind the gun in the battle over the prairie chicken lands. Saw my first [[underlined]]Canada Spruce Grouse [[/underlined]] a nice male. Walked several miles and saw outline of a beautiful flooding project. Strang has no knowledge of previous condition of the country. Believe chicken value greatly exaggerated.
