Oct 1, 1936
   To Budget hearings nearly all day. Of course we had no intuition as to how we came out but the hearing was friendly. I have now been clear thru the mill on the budgets so am beginning to learn the ropes
Oct 2, 1936
   Spent day on mail & conferences with every one until 2:00 PM then home to work in yard. Spaded up a bit of ground for flowers which is terrible stuff but perhaps fertilizer & hard work will make it work.

Oct 4, 1936
   Up early and in picnic with Couch to Wickens farm. Had a picnic breakfast and dinner & a delightful day. Birds not too abundant.

3. Coopers Hawk 2
4. Mourning Dove 2 in Wickens yard
5. Crow small flocks
6. Phoebe 4
7. Meadowlark 15 flock first time in numbers
8. Blue Jay C. in straggling flocks
9. Downy Woodpecker 2
10. Flicker sev.
11. Tufted Titmouse 3
12. Carolina Chickadee 1
13. Golden crowned Kinglet 2
14. Robin 4 or 5
