Signed order for reorganization in Stochbergers office yesterday & cleaned up today.  Left at 6.45PM

Jan 23, 1938.
On train all day.  Hot & sultry and a boring ride.  A trim little blond across the aisle from me was very much annoyed by the attentions of two men.  We finally heard one say he was from the [[strikethrough]] Secretarys office [[\strikethrough]] Department of Agriculture.  Jim finally gave his card to him but we had to rescue the young lady and take her to dinner.  She turned out to be Evelyn Keyes a young movie player in extra parts.  She seemed to be very nice indeed.  Didn't smoke or drink and had a nice voice.  Arrived at New Orleans and met by a downpour of rain.  Ray Moore met us also John Lynch.

Jan 24, 1938.
Up at 7.00AM and started for refuge.  Drove down the river thru orange and tangerine groves and finally took our speed boat the "Des Gris" at Venice.  Went to Refuge headquarters.  John Suthelen[[?]] has done an extraordinary fine job in building refuge headquarters with W.P.A. labor.  We have about 40,000 acres here.  He like all refuge managers wants more land.  The boatshed & house are exceptionally fine.  I like the house better than
