most that I have seen.  We went down Main pass in PM and saw the Blue Goose & Golden Arrow in their anchorage.  Saw lots of birds tho the heavy cold wind made things uncomfortable.  We saw myriads of [[underline]]Blue geese[[/underline]], some [[underline]]Snow Geese[[/underline]] a few [[underline]]Egrets[[/underline]] a [[underline]]Great Blue Heron[[/underline]]and the following species of duck.
[[underline]]Mallards[[/underline]](C),[[underline]]Pintails[[/underline]](C),[[underline]]Baldpate[[/underline]](C),[[underline]]Canvasback[[/underline]](few),[[underline]]Scaup[[/underline]](few),[[underline]]Black Duck (Mottled)[[/underline]]few, [[underline]]Green winged teal[[/underline]]few,[[underline]]Shoveler[[/underline]] few.
Saw lots of [[underline]] tailed Grackles[[/underline]]& several[[underline]]Cardinals[[/underline]]around the lawn.
Mr [[Stilhelen?]] had a marvelous dinner for us.

Jan 25, 1938.\
Out on the refuge on north [[yacht?]].  Saw tens of thousands of geese in the air and an equal number of ducks on the mudflats.
[[underline]]Widgen[[/underline]] outnumbered all other species but[[underline]]Mallards, Spoonbill, & Pintail[[/underline]]were also exceedingly abundant.  Some of the [[underline]]Shovellers[[/underline]]were in high plumage.  Saw numbers of[[underline]]Mottled ducks,[[/underline]]one [[lone?]][[underline]]Gadwell,[[/underline]]and a sprinkling of other ducks.[[underline]]Tree swallows[[/underline]]were [[soaring?]] over the Marsh.  Saw one [[underline]]frigate[[/underline]]bird, numerous[[underline]]Pelicans [[/underline]]both white & brown),[[underline]]Cormorants, Egrets, Snowy Egrets, Little Blue Heron, Great Blue Herons & Louisiana Herons.[[/underline]]Saw a number of Marsh Hawks
