Conditions were so bad however that eclipse was not taken. Jup. was partly obscured by branch of tree. Twilight was rapidly increasing and clock was running very badly instead. It would run too fast at times and then too slow so that it could not be regulated by putting on taking off extra weight. Some light cloudiness also gradually approaching Jupiter. * Plate 8747 cannot have been stopped at 6h 18m if it was started at 6h 39m. What error shall we assume to have been made? This was prob. stopped at 7.18. C.
