38											Jan 12 1896	Instrument could not be used to-night as driving clock is in such bad condition. Clock runs same as last night, that is, sometimes running much too slow (about stopping) and then suddenly starting up, runs much faster than the sidereal rate. The larger the clock is allowed to run the worse it seems. After running for some time at slow rate the clock would stop and after a little time start up again of its own accord. W.
