Wednesday Aug 6
Morning half clear with fresh E SE wind and streaks of fog constantly passing over. L M [[?]] observations until 1 P.M. Weigh anchor and stand out of the harbor when it shuts down thick with light wind.

Thursday Aug 7
Cloudy & rainy in A.M. later clears off finely. See [[Gorebri?]] Peak and Tanaga and get some observations for height on the n Peak of the latter. Night partly clear, calm, with fine full moon & stars visible.

Friday Aug 8
Morning thick fog & rain with strong wind from S Eastward, so we have to reef. Later wind dies away and we spend the whole day beating against it with poor success; about 4 P.M. sound off the mouth of Chagakh Bay and find not over 2 fms in the Kelp but more inside, Anchor outside about a mile off in 14 fms sandy bottom. Foggy & calm.
