Tuesday Aug 26
Morning go about & see the sick people, then across the Bay to the reputed coal mine & back to Nazan Bay. P.M. Go down to the cave and get an axe & spearhead & 13 skulls with some small bones.
Attempt observations for latitude about noon are interrupted by clouds. Day with light westerly winds, and many passing clouds, foggy in A.M.

Wednesday Aug 27
Day with westerly but light winds in A.M. settle up accounts to weigh anchor and sail for the Four Craters [[abt. P.M.?]] when out side wind freshens and we have a a very nasty old NW swell. Half cloudy & fogging over land

Thursday, Aug 28
Swell continues, Day partly clear with successive fog squalls passing over. Sight the most northern of the four craters which is a very irregular and sharp rocky island of small size separated from the next SE of it by a strait say two miles wide partly narrowed by a small reef from island no 2. Around the point of this island (2) the shores are rocky with one prominent point making out
