The morning decidedly cool - yes

[[underlined]] Cold [[/underlined]]! Thermometer 60[[degree symbol]] below freezing point. Wind N. W. Light Aurora at play ^[[& visible]] till the light of the sun overwhelmed it. Notwithstanding the state of the Ther. in the rig of [[strikethrough]] th [[/strikethrough]] ^[[my]] Esquimaux dress, I was comfortable both going & coming from the NS. village. I went over with some ^[[hot]] tea for Nukerton.

She cannot survive long ere many hours. She will be numbered among the dead, her spirit, I hope, [[strikethrough]] [[/strikethrough]] winging away away to Heaven.
Tuk-oo-li-too, Ebirnbing & myself are now more busily engaged in getting ready for the Frobisher Bay Excursion. Only think kind friends of America, my starting out mid-winter, here in the North on a trip expecting to be gone 30 days or more, sleeping & ^[[living]] in Igloos (Snow houses) 
My companions, men & women Innuits! If ^[[either]] Seals, Walrus [[strikethrough]] [[?]] [[/strikethrough]] ^[[or]] Tuck-too are found ^[[in sufficient numbers]] to supply [[strikethrough]] us [[/strikethrough]] us in provision, I & my whole company may remain out 90 days (3 months) 
This will be a capital initiation to the life I expect to lead for two years [[underlined]] or more. [[/underlined]] I say [[underlined]] 'or more' [[/underlined]] from the fact that unless I can in that time ^[[(2 years from next July)]] determine to my satisfaction ^[[so]] the great questions for which I am here, I shall [[underlined]] (God willing) [[/underlined]] continue 1 or 2 years, additional.
