She had so freely supplied others with Ook-Sook, Seal meat & blood that but a trifle remained for us. Ebierbing has now caught three seals within 6 days. Had it not been for that 'drop of water' from his nose four would undoubtedly have been the number to record.

The Sealers (& Kunnia, the lady Sealer) arrived at the new ice in good time yesterday & proceeded to their work. By evening, each had a Seal! When they met to build their Igloo, it was dark. It was built of snow cut out wholly by feeling! So in the Igloo's erection. 23d Night in an Igloo!
Friday Feb. 1st 1861.

The storm ceased during the night. The day has been Fair. To-night the Aurora lights up the Southern & S. Eastern sky appearing like a great conflagration behind the clouds.

This morning, on going out, I was surprised to find that Ugarny was harnessing the dogs intending to make a visit to the vessel, the "George Henry". Finding this to be true, I immediately set myself to work writing to my friend, Capt Budington. The letter written, I done up a Sea-biscuit & a piece of boiled Salt Pork (a portion of my provision) for Ugarny to eat as he may need it on his way down.

Ugarny takes with him on his Kum-mi-ti 1/2 the Seal Ebirnbing caught yesterday as a present to his (E's) grandmother Oo-ker-ju-er-che at Rescue Harbor; also 1/2 of his (U's) Seal. By him I I sent back my poor, hungry lame Greenlander 'Ur-rak' informing [[strikethrough]] him [[/strikethrough]] Capt. B. in my letter that the prospect of bettering the dog's condition here [[strikethrough]] was [[/strikethrough]] is anything but encouraging. I sent by E. when he went down to the vessel for a whale spade, or an axe with wh. I expected to cut out the Og-big (Whale) carcase known to be deeply imbedded in the ice at the Harbor of Kou-tuk-ju-a some 9 or 10 miles N.N.W. of this. But on starting back he (E) forgot this part of my instructions, therefore my dogs have to be kept at Rescue Harbor. "EE", the lady Greenlander, proves to be more enduring than any of my other dogs. She is kept in service being harnessed in with Ebierbing's & Ugarny's whenever a journey requiring dogs is made.

This P.M. I went up the Mountain's icy steps hatchet & oo-nar in hands. I had to cut out the impacted snow wh. by the gale of yesterday [[strikethrough]] had [[/strikethrough]] filled the steps. By the by E. assisted me in making measurement on the Sea-ice
