Seal Blood & seal liver!

I should mention that immediately on the arrival of Ugarny to-night Tuk-oo-li-too sent him in a large piece of seal meat & a portion of the liver. At the moment the same arrived in his Igloo, Polly sent in for Ook-sook (seal blubber)! This was too much for any [[underlined]] White-man, [[/underlined]] at least, to stand!
As it was, T. bit her lip - looked sad & [[underlined]] gave [[/underlined]] another liberal piece of Ook-sook!

I am satisfied Ebierbing & Tuk-oo-li-too would have abundant supply of Seal all the time if they were not called upon to support the town! As it is, they hav'nt a 10th of what their industry - their own hands produce! Tuk-oo-li-too opened her heart to me on the departure of the party who had the Ook-sook for Polly. She said she knew not what to do - that somehow, every Innuit here, were continually sending to her for this & that, wh. kept her in straightened circumstances - [[underlined]] for food especially [[/underlined]] - all the time!

Of the four Seals Ebierbing has captured since our coming uup here, not one has been consumed in his Igloo by us three, myself, Ebier. & T. All of three & over have been eaten by the other Innuits here, Angeko & wives save the 1/2 wh. he sent down to the Village of Rescue harbor by Ugarny.

This is too bad! - nevertheless, the record is true!

Ugarny's old seal dog "Kei-u-ling" died this eve from old age, hard service & a terrible whipping Ebierbing's seal-dog "Smile" gave him to-day. It is said Kei-u-ling has been one of the very best of seal dogs. He was but of little service to Ugarny who seemed to be keeping him in remembrance of his former good acts. I saw Kunnia soon after the old dog's death skinning it with

her Ood-loo (Woman's Knife like a civilization mince meat chopping knife).

To-day an interesting (it came near being serious) incident happened, the foundation of wh. was a dog & Book. A favourite - a valuable Book of mine came near being swallowed whole - [[underlined]] leaves, cover & all [[/underlined]] - by one of Ebierbing's Seal dogs! The Book is [[space]] "small but precious" as [[space]] is the written sentiment in it of [[space]] my ever to be remembered friend, [[space]] the doner, Henry P. Haven of New London, Ct.

The title page of the Book is thus: "Daily Food for Christians,
being a promise & another scriptured portion for every day of the year together with the verse of a Hymn - Published by the American Tract Society"

This Book is my [[underlined]] "Vade Mecum" [[/underlined]] - one I keep for daily use. It was laying upon a pile of other books I have with me near the entrance, within our Igloo, when by accident, I happened to displace it, the same falling on the snow-floor [[strikethrough]] of the Igloo. [[/strikethrough]] No sooner did it "touch bottom" than one of the hungry dogs wh. had just poked his head in at the Oo-Koo-ong (door) [[underlined]] grabbed it [[/underlined]] - away he flew, I & others present after him. After a chase of several minutes, this way & that, among the 4 Igloos, Innuit dog's interest on Daily Food being served to him as well as me, was caught & made to disgorge. By careful drying the Book is preserved to me!
