Now for the head of "Rescue Bay"!
This morning, after breakfast I start to complete the survey of [[strikethrough]] the [[/strikethrough]] the upper portion of the Inlet. As Tuk-oo-li-too is much better, [[Ebirnbiny?]] is to go with me. We shall go prepared to stop to-night, as I do not think I can get through with what I wish to accomplish to-day.
Well, I [[underline]] have been to the head [[/underline]], or rather, to the [[underline]] two heads [[/underline]] of this Bay. Yet, I have done but little more than this, & [[underline]] return [[/underline]]. I have not done what I expected in this trip. Little, indeed, could I do under the circumstances [[strikethrough]] that [[/strikethrough]] which will be developed as I proceed in my record of the day.
At IX o'clock I started, my [[underline]] starting [[/underline]] companion being the one indicated above - [[Ebirnbiny?]]. We had not proceeded far before we were overtaken by Ange-Ku (An nu-ar-ping) & one of his nulianas, who were on their way to seal. [[strikethrough]] In [[/strikethrough]] Angeko had his gun - & [[Ebirnbiny?]] my rifle. At 11 o'clock the Innuits saw a seal on the ice, "sunning". This led them one side. [[Ebirnbiny?]] 1st led off, going away round to the lee side of seal. This is a precaution they exercise with Tuk-too, ([[Frin-deer?]]) as well as [[underline]] seals when out on the ice [[/underline]]. As he was getting to the point desired, [[Ebirnbiny?]] neared an Island around wh. was much broken Ice. Then he saw another seal with its young. AngeKo soon joined him (E) when they concluded to make shots together, one aiming at the mother while the other should direct his gun to the young seal. As one, Crack when the gun & rifle, the latter wounding, but not so effectually but that the subject plunged into seal hole & made its escape. Old & young made [[strikethrough]] some [[/strikethrough]] sure of escaping from the jaws of Innuits & us the 3 whites of the G.H. While this was going on I remained at the place of this our first stop - ([[Mam-a-nan-ping?]] stopping with me) for the

object of taking sights & making meridional observations for Latitude.
By the by, after proceeding on our route this morning [[strikethrough]] a little [[/strikethrough]] awhile after being overtaken by Ange-Ko & nuliana I found I had forgotten an important instrument, as will be seen by the note I sent back to the Steward, wh. read thus:
'Steward, - To my astonishment, have left my pocket Sextant - you will find it in the large drawer under my "Bunk", or hanging by the door. Send it in the leather case. Have the [["Cooney"?]] suspend it around her neck. [[S-shaped underline]] Hall [[/S-shaped underline]]
(Pocket Sextant.)'

On making the discovery of being without this instrument, I found that the 2 men Innuits [[strikethrough]] with me [[/strikethrough]] were perfectly agreed as to who should return & get it - [[underline]] the woman of course [[/underline]]. Knowing I had a long tramp before me, I consented without much loss of time, on pressure of accepting the proposal; So writing as above Mam-ma na-ping started of on a run. Not many minutes elapsed before she was to the vessel, & back with us again, proving that an Innuit wife is serviceable as a "[[underline]] pack-horse [[/underline]]" as well as a [[underline]] companion [[/underline]].

Last act done on leaving vessel was to compare Cnronometers
